Glazed Doughnuts
I made Krispy Kreme-type doughnuts today. The ingredients were bread flour, cake flour, corn starch, eggs, milk, butter, sugar and yeast. The picture below is of the dough that is starting its second fermentation. After the dough had risen twice, I deep fried them.
I dipped the doughnuts into a glaze. The doughnuts were soft and melted in my mouth. I have made cake doughnuts before but it was my first time to make yeast doughnuts. I had coffee with the doughnuts, which make a perfect combination.
I've been hearing that "baked doughnuts" are popular these days in Japan. I heard that people make doughnuts (using either yeast dough or cake dough) and bake it instead of deep frying it in oil. Therefore, I baked some doughnut dough in the oven and then dipped it into the glaze. My baked doughnuts tasted rich and sweet but they are still a type of bread for me. I think it is difficult to call them "doughnuts".
